You might even end up stretching out your skin if you do it all the time, which can eventually lead to wrinkles or crepey skin. Before you use the exfoliating scrub, try taking a bath or a shower first. This is ideal because warm water will help soften your skin and make it easier for the exfoliating scrub to work its magic. 

After your bath, don't dry off your body entirely. Leaving your skin with a bit of moisture on it will help the scrub slide better across your skin. To start, scoop some of the scrub onto your hand and apply it across your body. 

You can choose to exfoliate your entire body or only a specific part such as your elbows or knees. Whatever the case, you will want to move the exfoliating scrub in small circles. This circular motion will help to make sure that the scrub removes all the old skin cells in the area. 

This won't be possible if you only move the scrub up and down or side to side.

What You Need to Know

If the scrub starts to irritate your fingertips when you do this, you can use a special glove to protect your hand while you apply the exfoliant. Try to rub the scrub into your skin for a minute or two, moving to different parts of your body in a slow manner. 

Avoid using the scrub in one area for too long as this might end up irritating that area. After you get all the areas you want to exfoliate, it will be time to rinse away the scrub. Do this with warm water. 

Avoid hot water as this could dry out your skin, which you will want to avoid, especially after exfoliating because your skin will be sensitive. Use your hand or a gentle rag to help rinse away the scrub from your skin. Once you're done, pat your skin dry and admire how soft your skin has become.

This, of course, will not make your skin look healthy. Instead, you will want to exfoliate your body about once a week. This will ensure that you keep up with any old skin cells that are threatening to pile up on your epidermis.

More than that, exfoliating once a week will ensure that your skin will always have a healthy, fresh glow to it. In some cases, you might be able to exfoliate your skin twice a week, but you should stop and go back to once a week if you notice that your skin is starting to become irritated.

After you exfoliate your body, your skin will feel soft but it will also be dry. This is because any exfoliant will remove the oil from your pores. If you don't do anything to your skin after exfoliating, you will find that your skin will become uncomfortably dry and it won't look that great either. 

Keeping Your Skin Healthy

To fix this problem, all you need to do is moisturize your skin in one way or another. Using a simple lotion will do your skin a great deal of good. However, you will have to be careful when choosing a good lotion since some cheap lotions are mostly made of water. 

You can also use oil such as coconut oil. However, applying coconut oil to dry skin won't do you much good when it comes to moisturizing because oil doesn't have any water in it at all. For that reason, you will want to make sure that your skin is a bit damp before you put on any oil.  

Once you do that, the oil will be able to trap the water against your skin, creating a layer of hydration. After some time, you will find that your skin will again be hydrated and in great shape. If you have acne-prone skin, avoid oils that will clog your pores such as coconut oil, and instead use lighter oils such as almond oil.
